Congratulations to our WPSS elite school U10 group for a wonderful weekends work in Sydney.
Coached by WPSS director Jo Dawkins the players have not only represented WPSS with distinction but also New Zealand, seeing off all challengers to win the Sydney International Cup in fine style both on and off the pitch.
A gruelling schedule over the first 2 tournament days saw the young WPSS group win 7 games out of 7 on their way to qualifying for the show piece game.
Tuesday was not as hectic with just the grand final for the youngsters to focus their energies on.
The Brazilian Soccer Schools of Sydney provided the opposition, physically strong with a few real quality individuals to cope with.
The WPSS players once again took the occasion in their stride, unintimidated by the atmosphere the U10’s picked up from where they left off in the semi final performing with skill, confidence and concentration.
Goals to Bernardo Tofono and Thomas Nelson’s third finals goal in as many matches were the difference in a great game of football enjoyed by all the supporters at the big youth event.
A 2 nil final win for the WPSS U10 to cap off a fantastic overseas experience for the players that has seen them grow immensely over the course of their short time in Sydney.
In addition to the team award the WPSS boys were also recognised with individual honours.
Cooper Te Ratana was a rock in goal the whole tour and was awarded the Golden Glove as best Goal Keeper whilst Jedd White picked up his prize for winning the individual players juggling competition.
